Counselling and Psychotherapy
Counselling and psychotherapy provide a resting place from the business of life, where you allow yourself time and space to address life’s challenges and difficulties.
While the terms counselling and psychotherapy are often used interchangeably, counselling tends to refer to addressing specific and defined problems while Psychotherapy refers to underlying changes to a person’s sense of self, which comes through deeper reflection and insight.
Most of us experience emotional difficulty at some time in our lives and we need to come to terms with pain, disappointment and confusion. This can be resolved without outside help, but there are occasions when it is difficult, if not impossible without therapeutic support. This may be because current issues stir up feelings from the past of which we are not consciously aware. Therapy can help us to understand and make sense of those hidden aspects of ourselves.
Using an holistic approach, I bring to awareness the unity of mind and body. Although our minds have the capacity to avoid or suppress some emotions and memories, every cell in the body is capable of memory. Those memories can be revealed in our dreams, feelings and drawings. Unconsciously, emotions have a powerful effect on who we are, how we behave and how we feel. Love, hope, joy and peace of mind have physiological consequences, just as stress, depression and despair do.
I draw on a number of therapeutic techniques to assist with developing a greater understanding of the self, heightened self-acceptance, improved relationships and greater control. All of which will address your needs and help to clarify your goals.
